The EUDR in a nutshell …

A scenic view of a lush green forest with fog and clouds, with transparent floating cubes containing green trees, and sunlight shining from the top left.

Under the regulation businesses have added due diligence responsibilities & obligations.

The EU Deforestation Regulation compels in-scope businesses to undertake complex due diligence measures to identify and address the risks associated with deforestation and forest degradation within their supply chains.

This includes:

  • Scientific description of product/quantity/country of production

  • Geolocation of plots of production / date range of production

  • Verifiable evidence that a product is deforestation free

  • Verifiable evidence that a product is legally produced

European consumers have historically contributed to 10% of the world’s deforestation.

The EU Deforestation Regulation seeks to change this by introducing mandatory risk assessments and mitigation measures to stop the leading drivers of deforestation.

The EUDR is right around the corner…

In-scope products that are being produced right now will need to be accompanied by a risk assessment report when being imported into the EU after the December 31, 2025 enforcement date comes into effect.

The EUDR becomes effective for micro and small traders and operators as of June 30, 2026.

Companies importing these seven commodities into the European Union common market must prove that their products are deforestation-free.
